What a session is actually like
Built so you can turn up as you are and leave feeling lighter than when you walked in.
- Drop in when it suits
- No term, no course to finish, nothing to keep up with. Come every week or once every few months. Book the Saturdays that work and ignore the rest.
- All levels, same room
- First time ever or ten years in, sessions are built so everyone gets something out of them. Nobody gets left behind and nobody gets bored.
- Pay what you feel
- Pick your price from $15 to $35. The suggested $25 covers the room and the running costs. Pay less if money is tight, more if you can.
- Sits alongside your training
- Plenty of people here also take classes elsewhere. These sessions work with any style of improv training. Think of it as extra reps in a room that wants you to do well.
- A real warm-up first
- We start loose, move into exercises and scene work, and finish by sharing what people are taking away. Each week has a different focus, so it stays fresh.
- Ten people, not thirty
- Sessions are capped at ten. Everyone gets stage time, everyone gets seen, and nobody spends two hours on a chair waiting for a turn.
Never miss a Saturday
The Breakfast Club WhatsApp group is where the weekly reminder goes out, along with the venue for the week and any last-minute changes. It is announcements only, so it will not blow up your phone. Muting it still gets you the reminder when you open WhatsApp.
Questions
Do I need any improv experience?
None. Sessions are structured so a complete beginner can jump straight in, and experienced improvisers still get a workout. Come as you are.
How long is a session?
About two and a half hours. Warm-ups, then exercises and scene work, then a few minutes at the end sharing takeaways.
How does pay-what-you-feel work?
When you book you pick your price between $15 and $35. The suggested price is $25, which covers the room and the running costs. There is no different experience at different prices.
Where are sessions held?
Around inner Melbourne, usually Carlton or East Melbourne. The venue changes from week to week, so the exact place and room is listed against each date and again in your confirmation email.
Do I have to come every week?
No. That is the whole point of a drop-in. Some people come every Saturday, some once a month, some after a six-month gap.
Can I book a few sessions at once?
Yes. Select as many upcoming dates as you like on the booking page and pay for them in one go.
